Simple Dog-Friendly Pancakes Recipe

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and our dogs shouldn’t have to miss out! As members of the family, our pets may sometimes find themselves at the table with us. It’s no secret, though, that human food isn’t exactly nutritious for our furry friend. Luckily, if you know what ingredients to avoid, you can make a special dish just for your pet. If you’re a breakfast fan looking for pet-safe foods, check out the recipe for simple dog-friendly pancakes below!

Simple Dog-Friendly Pancakes

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Using a whisk, combine the eggs and milk first. Once well-mixed, add in the flour and beat until smooth and lump-free.
  2. Heat a nonstick pan over medium low heat.
  3. Once pan is warm, pour batter to desired size and cook for about 30 seconds on each side (the first side of the pancake will likely need longer to cook than the flipped side). Repeat until batter is gone.

Disclaimers and Warnings

You may notice that this very basic recipe lacks lots of the usual pancake ingredients. That’s because typical American pancakes add extra ingredients to improve taste and texture. Most of those (such as sugar, butter, oil, baking powder) are NOT good for your dog and may even be dangerous. The good news is that dogs aren’t usually picky about taste and texture! The pancake recipe above will make less sweet, flatter, denser pancakes than you’re likely used too.

Additionally, if your dog has certain intolerances or allergies, this recipe may not be suitable to serve them. Gluten intolerance, while rare, may cause your dog to experience symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, skin irritation, and more. Lactose intolerance may also pose a health risk. If your dog exhibits any unusual or concerning symptoms, contact a vet immediately.

Just like with any food, it’s best to enjoy this treat in moderation. Although none of the ingredients are toxic for your dog, they’re not adding anything to your dog’s diet either. So remember to only give your dog a couple of pancakes, not a whole stack! As always, if you have any concerns about introducing new foods, make sure to consult your vet. If you do try this recipe, let us know how your dog liked it!
