8 Things To Do With Your Dog For Valentines Day
- by cpc_admin
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and stores are already lining their shelves with red and pink treats for your loved ones so why not share the love by doing something special for your pets? Even if you are on a budget or short on time, we have compiled a list of some great things to do with your dog for Valentine’s Day this year. We know they love you unconditionally and are always up for any adventure, big or small, as long as you are right there with them. Below are some options for staying in or getting out and exploring your area!
- Bake a Treat:
- Whether you are an expert cook or if you tend to get take-out for most dinners, these two recipes will be so easy to throw together and your dog is sure to love them! These frozen Strawberry Banana treats will give your dog an antioxidant boost and you don’t even need an oven! Just blend 3 ingredients together, put in a mold to freeze, and you’re done! Don’t be discouraged if your dog doesn’t love them at first, if they aren’t used to frozen treats it can take a few tries before they get used to them. But give them time to adjust and they will surely love them.
- If you are in the mood to bake, then these Biscuits are the perfect treat to make! These require a few more ingredients and a little more time, but they might just become a staple in your house because they are so easy to make. If your dog is anything like ours, they will love that these were made by you!
- Teach Your Dog a New Trick: Believe it or not, training your dog is a wonderful way to bond with them. Training builds trust between you and your dog. It also is a great way to keep their mind active. We have some great tricks and instructions on how to train your dog HERE! You can start with the basics such as sit, stay, or lay down and work your way up from there. Once they learn the basics, try incorporating new tricks such as shake, lie down, rollover, and more. Just remember that practice makes perfect. This is an activity that you and your dog can enjoy for just a few minutes every day. We would love for you to send us photos or videos of you and your dog working together! Or let us know if you and your dog have any unique tricks that you can do!
- Go For a Walk or Hike in a New Location: If the weather cooperates, this is a great time to get outside and stay healthy with your dog! They will love to explore a new trail or park with you. Your dog will enjoy seeing new sights and learning new smells that are different from your normal routine. We have compiled a great list of places to visit around New Orleans. Check out that blog post to find some dog-friendly hiking trails and even some restaurants to stop by once you’ve worked up an appetite.
- New Toys: If your dog loves to play fetch or chew on a stuffed toy, they will definitely feel spoiled if you get them something new! A new tennis ball, frisbee, or squeaky stuffed animal is sure to get them excited. They will love it even more if you spend some time playing with them too! If you’re not sure what to get your dog, we have a list of the Best Toys for Your Dog. This list can help you find something new that your dog will love.
- Snuggle Party: One of our personal favorite activities to do with our dogs, or dogs we are sitting is to have a snuggle party! Valentine’s Day is all about love, so grab a blanket and some pillows and settle on the floor, couch, or bed. You can bring a book or turn on the tv, but your dog will absolutely love to just curl up next to you for some extra snuggles! This is especially perfect after you’ve gone on a new walk or if their belly is full from their new treats!
- Schedule a Wellness Exam: This one may not seem quite as fun for most dogs, but nothing says I love you better than keeping your pet healthy. Make sure to schedule a wellness or yearly checkup visit with your vet, as regular veterinary care can help your dog live a longer more fulfilled life with you.
- Hire a Dog Walker: If you are short on time, but still want to do something extra for your dog for Valentine’s Day, we would love to come sit with them to give them some extra love, playtime, or a walk! Your dog will love having a new friend, and it can help keep them from getting bored while you are working or away.
- Try a New Game: If it’s cold outside or you just want to stay close to home, there are so many fun things to do with your dog inside. We have a whole list of activities you can do with your dog at home whether you are stuck inside, or just playing in the backyard. You can find that list HERE. Some of these, like the treat hunt or hide and seek, might take a little longer for your dog to understand, but they will be sure to enjoy themselves even if they are just learning.
No matter how you choose to spoil your pet this Valentine’s Day, they will surely appreciate the extra love and attention! Your dog doesn’t care if you are single or have a date, as long as you carve out some time in your day for them, they will be happy!
